Police impound car possibly connected to assault

- ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Anchorage police have impounded a car matching the description of the sedan suspected of being used to run down two people from St. Paul Island. The Anchorage Daily News reports police at 8:15 a.m. Saturday found the car abandoned behind Credit Union 1 on Abbott Road. Police are conducting a forensic search of the car and reviewing video from nearby security cameras. Police at 4:40 a.m. Saturday found 34-year-old Nicholas Philemonoff and 34-year-old April Merculief run over by a car in a parking lot on west International Airport Road. Philemonoff suffered a broken ankle. Merculief remains in critical condition with a severe head injury, shattered hips and a cracked neck. They described the driver as a black man, 5-feet-7-inches tall, about 30, with a buzz cut.
