- FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) - A wildfire burning near Fairbanks has crossed the Chena River. The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports (http://is.gd/LW5rrZ) the Stuart Creek 2 Fire is burning further into state park lands. Three smaller spot fires were located Sunday evening just inside the boundary of the Chena River State Recreation Area and outside the perimeter of the main wildfire. Continued hot, dry weather was to blame for the spot fires, and the recreation area remains closed. A community meeting is planned Monday night in Fairbanks. Officials on Monday said the main fire is estimated at 131 square miles and 57 percent contained. There are 722 firefighters battling the blaze that started June 19.
