Anchorage pilot dies in crash near Glennallen

Sep 06, 2013 -- 12:15pm
- ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - State Troopers say a 41-year-old Anchorage man has died in a plane crash west of Glennallen. Troopers in a web post on Friday identified the victim as Michael S. Zobel, the sole occupant and pilot of the small plane. Troopers say the cause of the Thursday evening crash wasn't immediately known, but a friend of the pilot witnessed and reported the crash. Medical responders declared Zobel dead at the scene, but they weren't able to remove the body. Poor weather on Friday also is preventing troopers from recovering it. The Anchorage Daily News reports a National Transportation Safety Board investigator is headed to the crash site, 21 miles north of Eureka Lodge, but rain and snow are causing problems.
