High winds forecast for Anchorage area

- ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Residents in the Anchorage area are being encouraged to batten down the hatches. The National Weather Service is predicting high winds beginning about 4 a.m. Tuesday and lasting about nine hours, affecting Turnagain Arm and the Anchorage Bowl. The municipality's Office of Emergency Management says winds will range from 60-75 mph with gusts up to 90 mph at higher elevations and along Turnagain Arm. City residents can expect winds from 25-40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph. The office in a release urges residents to secure loose objects from blowing around and getting damaged.
