Overnight sexual assault exams to resume

Nov 01, 2013 -- 4:45pm
- ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - An Anchorage hospital plans to resume providing overnight forensic exams to sexual assault victims. Providence Alaska Medical Center had suspended the overnight exams Oct. 1, due to a lack of specially trained nurses. The decision caused concerns among those who work with sexual assault victims, who were being told not to shower or change clothes until they could see a nurse. According to the Anchorage Daily News reports a statement posted on the Providence Health & Services website said overnight exams will resume Nov. 16, with a temporary staffing solution. Providence hopes to have additional nurses hired and the program fully staffed by Feb. 1.
