Anchorage: fire crews fight flames at apartments

- ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Firefighters in Anchorage have responded to flames at an apartment complex in the city's Spenard neighborhood. The Anchorage Daily News reports that fire department spokesman Al Tamagni said there had been no injuries as of Monday evening. The spokesman says the fire broke out on the top floor of the three-story Sands Apartments. Someone driving by spotted the fire and called 911 shortly before 4:30 p.m. Tamagni said he thought the building contained between eight and 12 apartments. The Red Cross is taking care of residents who had to evacuate.
