- PETERSBURG, Alaska (AP) - A Petersburg man is facing felony assault charges after an armed standoff with police. KFSK reports 30-year-old Jace Cunningham is accused of firing shots at police and attempting to flee. Police Chief Jim Agner says authorities received a call last Thursday about a possibly suicidal person with an assault rifle. He says authorities made contact with Cunningham by cell phone and attempted to negotiate with him. Authorities say Cunningham was in a vehicle in a remote part of town. Police set up a road block and Agner says Cunningham fired shots at officers before putting his vehicle in a ditch. He says that led to an armed standoff. Charges against Cunningham include seven counts of third-degree assault, a felony. He has not yet entered a plea.
