Arguments to begin in Marvin trial

Oct 25, 2012 -- 8:39am

- JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - Oral arguments are scheduled to begin Thursday in the trial of a man accused of killing two Hoonah police officers in 2010. John Marvin Jr. faces murder and weapons charges in the deaths of Sgt. Anthony Wallace and Officer Matthew Tokuoka of the Hoonah Police Department. The two were gunned down in front of Marvin's residence in August 2010. A jury of three women and 11 men was chosen late Wednesday afternoon. Ultimately, 12 jurors will decide the case but state court Judge David George said he would not announce the alternates until later. Also Wednesday, George denied a defense motion to move the trial from Juneau. Defense attorney Eric Hedland argued there had been extensive pre-trial publicity but George said he didn't believe that any exposure had been inflammatory.
