Thin ice warnings issued

- ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Anchorage fire officials are warning people about the dangers of thin ice. The Anchorage Fire Department says this is the most dangerous time for people to be out walking on the ice because lakes and streams are just beginning to freeze, and ice is still thin in many places. Channel-2 News reports the fire department's water rescue team has been checking on nearby lakes to see how ice formation is coming along. Fire Station 4 Captain Blake Lindson says this early in the season looks can be deceiving. He says the ice may appear thick enough but once people actually get out on it they can fall through.
