- FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) - A North Pole couple has been charged with taking tips from Fairbanks drive-up espresso stands. The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports 21-year-old Cayla Thorp and 25-year-old Christopher John are charged with grabbing tip jars and driving off. Police say the couple would place an order, wait for a barista to leave the window and then grab the tip jar and drive off. They are charged with misdemeanor theft at two stands and police say they acknowledged hitting other drive-up coffee huts. They also told police they collected less than $10 and debated whether they were spending more on gas than they were taking in. Police say a surveillance video identified Thorp's car and a barista remembered her from high school. John told police they wanted to buy synthetic marijuana.
