Man cited for killing bear and trading claws

- ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Alaska State Troopers say a 25-year-old King Salmon man has been cited for killing a brown bear and trading its claws to pay off a debt. Troopers say Kyle Anderson was cited for failing to report or salvage a brown bear taken in defense of life and property and for the illegal sale of bear claws. The Anchorage Daily News says the bear was killed legally in defense of life and property but Anderson didn't follow notification procedures such as salvaging the skull and hide with claws attached. Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters says Anderson traded the bear's claws to a former co-worker to pay off a $200 debt. It's unclear if Anderson has an attorney. He could not immediately be reached for comment.
