- ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Fire officials say three families were displaced and several pets died when a fire damaged a 12-plex in Eagle River. Anchorage fire battalion chief Tim Garbe says the fire was reported just before 2 p.m. Sunday. Channel-2 News says the fire started in a bedroom on the bottom floor of the building when no one was home. Garbe says the blaze spread to the unit above. He says an apartment on the third floor sustained smoke damage. No one was injured and nine other families returned to their homes. Garbe says several cats and one dog died in the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
