Applications begin for Mount Marathon race

- ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Applications are now being accepted for this year's Mount Marathon race in Seward. This Fourth of July will mark the 86th year for the race that pushes runners up a 3,022 foot climb. Last year's race was marred by tragedy. Sixty-six-year-old Michael LeMaitre went missing on the mountain. He was last seen heading uphill about 200 feet from the top of the mountain. The search for him was called off after nearly two weeks of continuous searches. No one had ever gone missing or died before in the race on the shale-covered mountain where injuries are common. Channel-2 News says the last day to apply to run this year's race is March 31st.
