- ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — The public is being invited to provide testimony at a hearing about the AnchorageSchool District budget. Monday's meeting with the Anchorage School Board is the first of two public hearings on the district budget, which is facing a $25 million shortfall. Next year's proposed budget is $720 million. Superintendent Jim Browder has proposed cutting 215 jobs. Those jobs include 100 positions that were vacated earlier in the current school year. Browder says with more attrition, the actual number of layoffs would be around 50 people. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at district headquarters at 5530 E. Northern Lights Boulevard in Anchorage.
