- JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - Governor Sean Parnell has ordered state flags be lowered to half-staff Thursday in honor of former state Rep. Martin Marty" Farrell. Parnell's office says Farrell died last month in Oregon at age 82. Farrell served one term in the state House, from 1971-1972. Parnell, in a release, called Farrell a fair person who will be remembered for his public service, as a Marine during the Korean War and as a lawmaker during a "critically-important era in our state's history." Parnell's office says Farrell was chairman of the House Resources Committee in 1972, when the legislature took up the first major overhaul of state regulatory and right-of-way laws.
