- ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Alaska's largest school district may be seeking a new superintendent a year after going through the same process. The Des Moines, Iowa school district says Anchorage schools Superintendent Jim Browder is one of three finalists for its superintendent's job. Browder in an email Friday told Anchorage school employees that he's considering leaving to be closer to a daughter and grandson in Georgia who have been experiencing health issues. Browder moved to Anchorage last year from the Lee County School District in Fort Myers, Fla. He has overseen creation of a school budget that calls for about 200 positions to be eliminated before the next school year. The district says nearly 100 are already vacant.
