Investigation begins into fatal plane crash

The investigation has begun into why a small plane crashed Wednesday near Merrill Field in Anchorage. A man and a woman were killed in the crash. Their identities were not being released. National Transportation Safety Board investigator Larry Lewis says special attention will be given to the Cessna 206's engine and propeller. Officials say the plane suffered some kind of engine failure

soon after take-off. It banked to the left and crashed into a vacant commercial building. Lewis says several scenarios are possible, including that the plane's crank shaft, push rod, or cam shaft broke. He says it also could have lost a cylinder. Investigators have determined no one else was on board the six-seater plane.
