Senate committee to investigate natural gas supply

The Senate Judiciary Committee this month will be looking into the natural gas supply in southcentral Alaska. Anchorage Sen. Hollis French said concerns were raised about the supply when Enstar Natural Gas Company sent a letter to 400 potential customers. In the letter, Enstar warned potential commercial customers that it could only count on the company for a 30-day supply and then might have to find another supplier. Enstar raised questions in the letter about whether ConocoPhillips and Marathon will refuse to sell Cook Inlet gas to Enstar because of a recent rate decisions by the Regulatory Commission of Alaska. French says if there is any chance some local businesses won't be able to heat their buildings next year, it needs to be addressed now.
