The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation says there has been a fuel spill in Iliamna. Officials say they believe about 2,500 gallons of fuel were spilled in the accident. The fuel was spilled from a tractor trailer fuel tank as it was being unhitched from the tow vehicle. The fuel tank rolled down and incline, causing the tank to be punctured. The accident occurred very near the Iliamna River. DEC says workers on the site used a bobcat front end loader to build soil berms in the spill path and kept the fuel from entering the river. Spill response boom and absorbent material also helped contain the spill. There have been no reports of wildlife being impacted.
