The Anchorage Police Department has released the name of the officer who shot a burglary suspect in Eagle River. The officer was Hunter Hasbrouck, who has been in the department for four and a half years. Police say Hasbrouck at 1 a.m. Thursday responded to a break-in at the Family Pharmacy and spotted a man leaving through the back door with a gun in one hand and a crowbar in the other. The police department says Hasbrouck repeatedly ordered the man to drop the weapon, and when he did not, he shot the suspect.
Matthew Sanchez was taken to a hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds to his chest. He was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Sanchez remains in the hospital under Department of Corrections supervision.
