JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — State officials have announced the number of reported coronavirus cases in Alaska has grown to 59. The figure released Wednesday evening includes 17 new cases. The state’s chief medical officer says 11 of the new cases were from Anchorage, three were from Ketchikan and one each were from Homer, Fairbanks and North Pole. For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.
