ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Anchorage Daily News) — Health officials in Alaska have issued a public warning to residents about the dangers of fentanyl after multiple overdoses were reported this week from people who took counterfeit pills designed to look like oxycodone. The Anchorage Daily News reported that the Alaska Department of Public Safety alerted residents Friday after discovering counterfeit tablets containing fentanyl. No further information on the nature and location of the overdoses was immediately available. The State Crime Detection Laboratory analyzed the pills, and preliminary results indicated that fentanyl was the primary ingredient. Officials say fentanyl is a potent drug that can become fatal with as little as 2 milligrams.
